The Law Offices of Michael G. Day & Associates, P.C., recognized that people in their retirement years needed legal services to help them through this difficult process. Michael G. Day realized the need in Western Maryland to help clients deal with the financial aspects of the aging process. Thus in 1994, Day began emphasizing Elder Law in his practice. Today, with more than 50 years of combined experience in the practice of Elder Law, the attorneys in the Law Offices of Michael G. Day & Associates, P.C., provide focused, professional help for clients to navigate the system.
Day and his staff know that submitting an application for benefits is only one part of elder planning. All too often a breakdown occurs between the client’s expectations and financial reality. The Law Offices of Michael G. Day & Associates, P.C., works diligently to protect client assets by taking advantage of various options. The entire staff commits to protecting a healthy spouse from the potentially devastating financial impact of long term care.
Taking its services a step further, over the years, the Law Offices of Michael G. Day has provided free area seminars to thousands of seniors. At these events, attendees receive key points and options to consider to protect their financial future and well-being.
Day graduated from Fort Lewis College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and the University of Denver College of Law, where he studied Estate Law. He opened his practice in 1976 in Hagerstown, handling cases in corporate, real estate and a variety of other civil law areas throughout Western Maryland.
Day is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), and certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation (CELA) (not recognized by the state of Maryland). He is also a past member of the Elder Law Section Council of the Maryland Bar and is designated as a Maryland Super Lawyer by Maryland Super Lawyer magazine.
Day is active in his community, holding key positions in a number of community organizations that positively impact not only seniors, but the entire population. As a founding Trustee of the Community Foundation of Washington County, MD, and an advocate and supporter of organizations including United Way of Washington County, Holly Place, Saint James School, Mason Dixon Council Boy Scouts of America, Meritus Healthcare Foundation, and San Mar Children’s Home, he is committed to maintaining the quality of life in the area.
Within the coming years, the last of the Baby Boomers will reach or surpass 65 years of age. The percentage of older Americans will dramatically increase, making it more important for that group to enhance their awareness of aging issues.
