Experience Corps is a Literacy Tutoring Program. Join us for a Program Information Session and hear how AARP Foundation Experience Corps utilizes the time, skills and experience of adults 50 years + to help students in Pre-K through third grade develop the academic skills, self-confidence and personal skills needed to succeed in school and in life. As a volunteer reading tutor, you could make a tangible difference, helping to shape young lives in schools in the DC Metro area. All you need is your life experience and time to get involved; Experience Corps provides extensive training and support throughout the year.We're looking for people who: Are at least 50-plus years of age - Can volunteer time to tutor and mentor children who need basic literacy skills and guidance - Possess a high school diploma or GED - Can agree to and pass a criminal background check- Can pass a basic literacy screening -Can complete at least 25 hours of training - Can serve 5-15 hours/ week for the school year.
