Continuing Education - 5 hours for Administrators and Social Workers.

Who Should Attend - Administrators and Maintenance Staff

This full-day workshop is designed to provide those responsible for maintaining a LTC facility’s fire / life safety and emergency preparedness programs with comprehensive focus on these critical tasks. In addition to providing attendees with strategies and concepts to achieve compliance, the overall goal of this program will be to “motivate” and coach participants by providing a strong foundational understanding of the risk of fire and other emergencies in LTC facilities as well as the importance of a well-prepared workforce.

The Emergency Preparedness segment of the workshop will cover essential concepts pertaining to the disaster preparedness continuum including preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery. The presentation will focus on the necessity of “All Hazards Planning” and utilization of a trusted emergency management model known as the Incident Command System (ICS) and specifically, the Nursing Home Incident Command System (NHICS) as it pertains to LTC facilities.

The Fire and Life Safety Compliance segment of this workshop (morning session) will provide a brief historical perspective on the evolution of fire and life safety regulations in long term care facilities by focusing on major fires that have initiated regulatory changes. The majority of time for the morning session will highlight real world-events, common deficiencies and strategies for compliance with the 2012 edition of NFPA #101 and associated referenced codes that are now enforced by CMS.
