Assistant Program Director, Friends Club

The Friends Club is looking for an outgoing and engaging person to help run a unique social therapeutic club for men in the early-to-mid stages of memory loss. We bring together active men in a caring, safe and secure environment. Participants gather with trained staff and committed volunteers four days a week to socialize with peers, share common interests and experiences, and enjoy social, intellectual and physical activities.

The perfect applicant must be comfortable leading group discussions on current local and world events. He/she should also enjoy teaching members about historical events and should love relating to others in a group setting. This position requires someone with dedication and a strong work ethic and someone who can take initiative and work cooperatively. Flexibility in programming is critical, as we build programs specifically to cater to members’ interests.

Because Friends Club is a small non-profit organization, all staff members participate in administrative duties. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must.

Our mission is twofold:

  1. To help club members maintain their highest level of functioning, support emotional and physical independence, heighten self-esteem and enhance overall quality of life; and
  2. To provide respite and support for caregivers.

The Assistant Program Director works under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Program Director to plan and implement the daily club program. Duties include the following:


- plan and research topics of discussion and facilitate discussion on topics of interest

- direct club members through physical activities (i.e., games and exercise)

- ensure individual member safety and participation

- cultivate and maintain a positive and calm environment for the duration of the meeting

- identify and respond to potentially problematic behaviors and physical symptoms

- set up and clean-up the physical space

- assist with overseeing and scheduling volunteers


Required skills and experience:

- comfort with public speaking

- experience with the geriatric population

- experience with dementia and related behavioral challenges

- minimum of Associates degree, preferred Bachelor’s degree

- basic computer competency

Compensation: $20+ per hour, commensurate with experience

The job is part-time, to be worked any two days a week, 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
