Position Summary:

Performs resident care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, safety, and comfort of residents as assigned. Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about working with long‐term care residents and the elderly. Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, team members, volunteers, and other facility staff. Able to read, write, speak and understand English.

Essential Responsibilities:

Assists with resident care needs and comforts including but not limited to:

• Assists or gives oral hygiene and mouth care.

• Assists with bathing functions and dressing/undressing as necessary and completes skin monitoring sheet. Records anomalies (i.e. bruises, skin tears, cuts, rashes, swelling, etc.)

• Assists with grooming including nail care, shaving and hair care.

• Assists with lifting, turning, positioning, and transferring of residents.

• Makes both occupied and unoccupied bed (as assigned).

• Keeps residents dry (i.e. change gown, clothing, linen, etc.) when soiled or wet.

• Assists resident with bowel or bladder functions.

• Checks residents frequently to assure that their personal care needs are being met.

Performs food service functions including:

• Prepares resident for meals (i.e. take to bathroom, wash hands, oral care, take to/from dining room, etc.)

• Serves food trays; assists with feeding as indicated.

• Serves between meal and bedtime snacks as needed.

• Keeps resident’s water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift.

• Performs after meal care (i.e. clean residents hands, face, clothing, brush teeth, take to bathroom, etc.)

• Documents and reports changes in resident eating habits.

Safety:

• Knows and follows facility rules.

• Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Reports equipment needs or repairs.

• Follows facility smoking policies.

• Reports and documents any incidents or accidents of residents, staff or visitors to the appropriate facility personnel.

• Performs duties, which may include transportation of residents, as assigned in Facility Disaster Plan.

• Uses required protective equipment.

• Follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.

• Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to Supervisor.

Resident Rights:

• Promote and protect resident rights, assist residents to make informed decisions,

• Treat residents with dignity and respect,

• Protect resident’s personal belongings

• Report suspected abuse or neglect,

• Avoid the need for physical restraints in accordance with the current professional standards

• Support independent expression, choice, and decision-making consistent with applicable law and regulation.

• Documents and reports resident complaints to management.

• Maintains confidentiality of resident information.

HIPAA:

• Follows and adheres to Morningside Elite Management policies and procedures

implementing HIPPA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information.

• Reports all suspected violation of company’s HIPAA policies or procedures to Facility Privacy Designee.

Other Essential Functions:

• Assists with keeping nursing and resident care area neat, sanitary and orderly.

• Documents and reports resident’s change in conditions to the Supervisor.

• Participates in the Plan of Care process as assigned.

• Launders and/or puts away residents’ clothing and linens as assigned.

• Follows work assignments and schedules.

• Complies with laws and regulations applicable to position and acts in accordance with Morningside Elite

Management Policies and Protocols:

• Attends and participates in in‐service training and staff meetings as scheduled and directed.

• Treats all residents, visitors and staff with respect and courtesy.

• Assists in orientation and training of employees as assigned.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:

• Requires a valid CNA or GNA licensure in good standing.

• Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
