Iona is pleased to announce that we are hiring a part-time Certified Nursing Assistant to work Monday-Friday, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm in our Wellness & Arts adult day center. We are a nonprofit organization that directly helps 3,000 older adults and families with the challenges and opportunities of aging in the greater Washington D.C. area. Job Summary:

Assist participants with personal care and rehabilitative services as well as program, recreational, and social activities, including lunch and kitchen duties, as needed to meet the needs of the participants.  Strive to incorporate the mission of the organization and to incorporate the Center’s goal of quality of care.  

The Certified Nurse Assistant shares responsibility with all staff for assisting clients as needed and promoting community awareness of Iona Senior Services.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Direct Service
    • Recognize and report changes in participants’ health status to Clinical Nurse Manager, demonstrate knowledge of complications, and ask appropriate questions to clarify situations 
    • Provide hands-on assistance with toileting
    • Assist participant in self-care activities
    • Identify when help is required in providing participant care and seek it appropriately recognizing own limitations
    • Follow safe lifting techniques
    • Assist nurse with treatments
    • Assist with serving lunch and snacks
    • Assist with kitchen duties, such as lunch clean up, as needed 
    • Lead and/or assist with activities in coordination with the Program Staff, as needed and time allows
    • Serve as morning and/or afternoon bus escort, as needed
  • Collaboration with other staff
    • Meet daily with Clinical Nurse Manager on duty to communicate care needs of participants, suggest improvements, and discuss progress
    • Report changes in client condition to the Clinical Nurse Manager
    • Assist with monitoring supplies for the health component of the program
    • Serve as escort on bus route and field trips as needed
    • Attend mandatory in-services and participate in team and educational conferences, staff meetings, and Iona-wide meetings and programs
    • Maintain harmonious relationship with co-workers, providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality of care
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

REQUIREMENTS:

Certified Nurse Assistant in the District of Columbia preferred

1-3 years experience working as a nursing assistant with geriatric population preferred

Ability to communicate with and establish effective relationships with staff, participants, caregivers, and volunteers

Ability to read, write, and understand English

Ability to lead individual activities for varying cognitive levels

Demonstrate physical strength and endurance to accomplish job duties, especially transferring of participants 

Other requirements:  Initial and annual chest X-ray/PPD; CPR and First Aid certification; Maintenance of Certified Nurse Assistant certification.
