Position Summary:

Responsible for overseeing health center food service activities, and providing the level of supervision necessary to ensure the courteous and efficient service of quality and nutritious foods. Duties should be in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulation governing our Community.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Assists in the planning, scheduling and supervising of health center dietary personnel.

2. Assure quality nutritional services are provided to the residents on a daily basis.

3. Supervise, interview, hire, train and develop food service personnel.
Assists in developing all menus for health center residents assessing preferences and nutritional needs. Assists in assuring staff education is provided to dietary personnel in accordance with the staff education plan plus provides on the job training for health center dietary personnel.

4. Assists in developing work assignments for all dietary personnel assigning specific jobs and spot checking work to ensure standards are met.

5. Assures that each resident’s nutritional adequacy is met.

6. Develop, implement and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the department.
Maintains pertinent and appropriate records, reports, schedules and studies as required by local, state and federal regulations and otherwise requested.

7. Maintains individual diet information by transcribing information from the dietitian’s notes to the Full Count or Vision, menu and nourishment list when indicated.

8. Review with dietician, administration, medical, nursing and resident/family in planning food service programs, activities and goals for the resident.

9. Coordinate food service activities with other related departments such as nursing, environmental services, activities and social services.

10. Interviews new admissions and documents food preferences on the approved form.

11. Contacts the dietitian between scheduled visits if unplanned or special therapeutic diets are ordered.

12. Assures that meal tallies are accurate on a daily basis.

13. Must possess excellent oral, written, and organizational skills,

14. Maintain a clean, safe and sanitary food service department.

15. Attends Care Plan Meetings.

16. Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.

17. Familiarity with emergency procedures and may be required to assist with evacuations.

Other Duties:

1. Maintains assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition.

2. Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.

3. Operate as a member of a team both within the department and across departments.

4. Performs other work duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma required. College degree preferred; Certified Dietary Manager and/or be a graduate of an accredited course in dietetic training approved by the American Dietetic Association.

2. Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic. Ability to understand measurements and conversions.

3. Must be knowledgeable of food services safety practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations and guidelines governing food services functions in nursing care facilities.

4. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related medical facility.

5. Experience in cost control, food management and diet therapy required.

Physical Requirements/Working conditions:

Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time, must be able to stand and walk up to 70% of the time. Must be able to stoop, bend, and stretch frequently; must be able to lift up to 30 pounds infrequently; must be able to see, hear and speak, and requires wearing slip resistant shoes.
