  • The Assisted Living Delegating Nurse/Manager primary responsibility is to manage the clinical oversight of the resident care in the assisted living program. As well as to provide coaching, leadership and supervision for Assisted Living Nursing Services Team Members. Some responsibilities include:
  • Takes the lead in coaching, supervising, directing and coordinating the assisted living nursing service program to ensure excellence in the delivery of care for residents
  • Managing the clinical oversight of resident care in assisted living and memory support, ensures acuity on assigned units is appropriate for the residents and issues nursing / clinical orders based on needs of resident
  • Review Wellness Nurse level of care assessments
  • Report to the resident’s physician, the OHCQ, and the resident, if applicable, the legal representative of the resident when the Assisted Living nursing care team fails to implement nursing or clinical orders without identifying alternatives to the care of service order
  • Completion of the Maryland Assisted Living 45-Day Review for all assisted living/memory support residents, Assisted Living Manager assessments, and Level of Care Scoring Tool
  • Completion of the 14 Day Medication Review, new resident assessments
  • Review/update resident assessments and new resident service plans annually, or more often as changes in condition occur
  • Provide staff training related to each resident’s care plan
  • Oversee the assisted living medication administration program
  • Complete Incident Reports and notify Executive Director, families, and physician, when appropriate
  • Updates to Health Care Practitioners Resident Physical Assessment (i.e., return from hospitalization, change in condition, annually)
  • Creates and sustains an environment that treats each resident with dignity and respect
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of a holistic social and recreational program that addresses the social, spiritual, emotional and physical needs of the residents
  • Develops and manages Assisted Living Services operating and capital budgets
  • Ensures that team members are assigned responsibilities consistent with their education, experience and ability. Supports, assists and evaluates staff nurses in the management of their units
  • Ensures resident records are maintained for each resident
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team, identifies ways to improve care of residents, and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Coordinates the transfer of residents to more appropriate care settings, as needed
  • Ensures residents families, physicians and others as appropriate are kept informed of changes in resident conditions and service needs
  • Provides ongoing coaching, supervisory, performance management, training and leadership for their team
  • Build trust and accountability by frequently holding coaching conversations with team members to develop, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to support team members’ goals and strategies
  • Conduct required stay interviews for all new hires
  • Practices regular Coaching Conversations with direct reports to build up and equip
  • Run and manage various reports from payroll systems to maintain compliance with employee licensures, payroll, online learning system, attendance, etc.
  • Verifies care activity documentation to ensure the delivery of nursing care according to physician’s orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies. Ensures medication administration is as ordered in accordance with nursing standards procedures and policies
  • Directly verifies and documents status of residents with change in conditions, new admissions, accidents and incidents, and validates continuity of care against the 24-hour report and dashboard documentation in (ICM).
  • Reviews and Updates Infection Control Logs, Wound Logs, Lab Logs and other system process for continuity of care and per policies and procedures. Follows up with nurses and nursing assistants who fail to meet standards
  • Coordination and completion of individualized plan of care
  • Directs resident care plan conferences


  • Registered Nurse licensed in good standing in state of community serving, and has completed the mandatory delegating nurse training course developed by the Board of Nursing
  • Successfully complete training and achieved state certifications required to operate an assisted living community
  • Designated by licensee to oversee day-to-day operation of assisted living program
  • Responsible for duties set forth in Maryland Only:
  • Assisted living manager who has completed training and passed examination set forth in Regulation .16
  • Qualifications for Level Three (3) Assisted Living License include Maryland Only:
  • a four year college degree
  • Two years’ experience in a health care related field and 1 year of experience as an assisted living program manager or alternate assisted living manager; or
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a health care related field and successful completion of the 80 hour assisted living manager training program
  • Be free from TB in the communicable form. Immune to measles, mumps, rubella and varicella through vaccination
  • Have sufficient skills, training and experience to serve the residents in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of assisted living
  • Have verifiable knowledge in: health and psychological needs of the population being served; resident assessment process; use of services plans; cuing, coaching, and monitoring residents who self-administer medications with or without assistance
  • Receive initial and annual training in: fire and life safety, infection control including standard precautions, emergency disaster plans and basic food safety
  • Receive initial and re-certification for basic first aid and CPR
  • Has completed the 80-hr Assisted Living Manager Training Course
  • Knowledge, experience and proficiency with COMAR, Office of Health Care Quality and CMS guidelines a plus
  • Knowledge with Nursing Assistant and Licensed/Registered Nurse Scope of Practice
  • Proven, positive leadership skills essential
  • Computer electronic medical record experience is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals
  • Ability to partner, communicate, coach and counsel direct report team members
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
