Insight Memory Care Center is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit whose mission is to provide specialized care, support and education for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other memory impairments, their families, caregivers, and the community through our adult day health and resource center. Serving Northern Virginia since 1984, IMCC offers a spectrum of holistic care, education and support, with a vision of a community where those affected by memory impairments can achieve the highest quality of life. IMCC also provides a safe and therapeutic environment for people in all stages of dementia.


A vital part of IMCC is providing a well-rounded therapeutic recreation program that meets the physical, cognitive and social needs of each participant.

IMCC is seeking a Director of Recreational Therapy (DRT) who is primarily responsible for developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the day-to-day activities for Center participants. The DRT works with several assistants to create a calendar of person-centered, therapeutic and meaningful activities, reaching all domains of practice (cognitive, physical, spiritual, etc.) As the person-centered care model is the foundation of the program, the DRT is responsible for the overall engagement of the participants in programs that will not only meet their needs of engagement, but will offer the opportunity for them to be successful. Finally, the DRT is also required to speak at public events, perform educational trainings; and work collaboratively with the Director of Education and Outreach and Program Director with regard to these needs. The DRT directly oversees the Recreation Therapy Department. This position reports directly to the Assistant Program Director.


Qualifications/Skills


  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Music, or Art Therapy (or related field), or equivalent work experience required.
  • Certified activity professional through a recognized accreditation body required. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in working with individuals with dementia required (5 years preferred).
  • Experience in Managing and Supervising Staff (5 years preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently required.
