As a person going into my last years of my life, I would like you to address the outside possibility of medical assistance in dying for those who might consciously choose to terminate their life with dignity as a personal choice due to a significantly diminished quality of life.

12:21:04     From Elva Roy : I believe that 2 states allow out-of-state people to travel to their states to take advantage of MAiD -- OR and VT. This has not always been the case.

12:22:49     From paula david : quality of life is not apparent to us until we have been through a crisis and see the difference between the good quality and the bad quality.

12:26:21     From Elva Roy : As Rosie said, most whole body donation sites require a BMI within a certain range--not emaciated and not morbidly obese.

12:27:59     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking https://www.compassionandchoices.org/our-issues/vsed

12:29:04     From dixcy bosley  to  Hosts and panelists : For VSED : Recommend folks to view video Rosemary Bowen  Fasting. ( she was my patient and we recorded it)

12:29:43     From dixcy bosley  to  Hosts and panelists : Also NY End of Life / VSED org has many resources

12:30:21     From Rosie Gaston  to  Hosts and panelists : YES! Thanks Dixcy!

12:30:39     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : A clinician-led, patient-centric registry app used upstream for conversation, ACP, and other end-of-life planning https://www.thanacare.com/

12:33:05     From Rick Aizpuru  to  Hosts and panelists : Thank you Steve

12:33:17     From c donley  to  Hosts and panelists : What is the cost range for the thanacare service?

12:34:40     From memella Drake : My sister before dying  she made a video of what she wanted at the end of life and discussed  her will. The State did not accept that, so she died with no will and now we are going through a lot of problems.

12:36:48     From Jeanne Smith : Does Thanacare work with people in all 50 states?

12:38:46     From Michelle Orndorff  to  Hosts and panelists : How much to use the software?

12:39:26     From Elva Roy : I'm on the Board of another organization. www.careandprepare.org

12:39:55     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : MOLST MEDICAL ORDER LIFE SUSTAINING TREATMENT?

POLST

PHYSICIAN ORDER LIFE SUSTAINING TREATMENT

12:41:15     From Linda Moore : How does your service differ from the online and paper versions of the Advanced Directives available at (www.AgingWithDignity.org) at 1(888)594-7437. The product is called "The Five Wishes". I have one and it's available online for medical care providers as well.

12:41:29     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : After Rosemary Bowen, 94, incurred a spine injury, she decided to terminate her life by fasting and asked her daughter, Mary Beth, to document her final days. https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/local/leaving-life-on-my-own-terms-a-mother-decides-to-fast-until-she-dies/2019/11/03/d6ad7412-5cc1-4eb1-ac25-cd2aa0f9634c_video.html

12:42:16     From Jeanne Smith : Can a person make a verbal change to their written directive?  Does that negate the directive for the future?

12:42:51     From Linda Moore : My grandmother also starved herself to death, in her nursing home, in 1996. She was recuperating from a broken hip.

12:42:58     From Laura Heinrich  to  Hosts and panelists : Rosie’s organization link?

12:43:09     From Rosie Gaston  to  Hosts and panelists : www.abetterending.org ?

12:43:11     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : J Vitkus 12:28 PM

Specifically, speaking as to medical aid in dying as a personal choice without a pending terminal illness, how is that individual accommodated? I understand that Switzerland offers this option.

12:44:03     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : The mission of A Better Ending is to get us talking about death and dying so we can live more fully! To provide a supportive and educational space where individuals and their loved ones can best plan and prepare for an end-of-life experience that is a true reflection of their wishes and life. This is accomplished through community events, private workshops, and 1:1 and family counseling and social work support. An informative, empathetic, and sometimes humorous approach is taken to make it an empowering and meaningful experience that aides in intentionality, normalization, healing, and acceptance. www.abetterending.org ?

12:45:41     From Elva Roy : It's so annoying when media and others refer to someone using MAiD as dying of suicide. It's the terminal illness that is killing them, not MAiD.

12:47:35     From jane omelia : what happens for solo agers whi you don't have or cannot support you

12:49:41     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : A clinician-led, patient-centric registry app used upstream for conversation, ACP, and other end-of-life planning https://www.thanacare.com/

12:50:28     From Elva Roy : www.compassionandchoices.org also offers free EOL documents, including a rider dealing with dementia (the only site that I know of which covers dementia).

12:52:56     From Linda Moore : Life Insurance policies typically won't pay-out, for families of suicide

12:53:12     From Rich Carlson : Another consideration is the emotional and physical strain on family members

12:54:27     From Elva Roy : I think MN is more progressive than most states related to all kinds of health care. I hadn't heard of "shared decision making." Thank you.

12:54:39     From c donley  to  Hosts and panelists : Is there one place someone from WA State can go online or unperson to find out which of all the above services are allowed or not allowed?

12:55:20     From Rosie Gaston  to  Hosts and panelists : Elva,

12:55:35     From Rosie Gaston  to  Hosts and panelists : You are absolutely right in that! I am so grateful to practice in MN.

12:57:02     From Rosie Gaston  to  Hosts and panelists : Linda, when someone utilizes MAID the cause of death on their death certificate lists the terminal dx not suicide hence it does not impact their life insurance policy.

12:57:17     From Jeanne Smith : Any recommendation to find a provider in your state, like Virginia

12:57:41     From Elva Roy : I suggest Compassion and Choices to find out about specific States and where they are in passing MAiD.

12:58:36     From Steve Gurney - ProAging Community : https://www.compassionandchoices.org/

12:59:11     From Purushottam Sharma  to  Hosts and panelists : https://coachmaster.io/ a great platform to talk about someone looking for Global Work around senior adults subject matters such as "abetterending"
