Ageism Awareness Day is October 7 - Resources from American Society on Aging

Ageism Awareness Day on Saturday, October 7, 2023, is an opportunity to draw attention to the existence and impact of ageism in our society and how we can reframe aging in our communities.

Tackling ageism is one of American Society on Aging (ASA)’s strategic priorities. That is why ASA’s Ageism & Culture Advisory Council, which is leading initiatives in this area, relies upon member input to reframe how we talk about aging and older people in a society where ageism is pervasive. To that end, these volunteer member leaders have developed a variety of tools for our members to use as we combat ageism in our communities on Ageism Awareness Day. These include:

• A social media toolkit with sample posts and ideas on how to advocate on social media (PDF).
• A press release template to complete and share with local media (direct download).
• A list of facts about ageism (PDF).
• A call to action with ideas about how you can promote Ageism Awareness Day (PDF).
• An Opinion piece to customize and share with local media outlets (direct download).
• A sample proclamation to share with your local government and elected officials (PDF).
• Ageism Awareness Day logos to share (PNG).
