Capital Caring Health’s annual Passion for Caring Gala will be held
Saturday, Oct. 3. The 2020 Passion for Caring Gala: Honoring the Heroes Among Us will be a virtual event
that recognizes local healthcare, community, and social justice heroes, nominated by members of the
community who have made a significant impact during the COVID-19 crisis or through their fight for racial
equity.
The Gala campaign will include a series of preview announcements beginning in September that will recognize
a weekly winner from each of the three categories:
Healthcare Hero Award – Honoring the courageous healthcare workers that have sacrificed so much
throughout the COVID-19 crisis;
Community Hero Award - The brave service personnel like postal workers, grocery clerks, delivery
personnel and others who deliver critical supplies to homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities, etc.
Social Justice Hero Award – Paying tribute to advocates, community leaders and organizers working
for social justice and racial equity.
Weekly winners in each category will be announced beginning in September, and each will receive a $500
award. Three finalists will receive The Passion for Caring Award on October 3 as part of the virtual program
that evening.
“This year, our Gala Theme focuses on the unique environment we all face as a result of the Covid-19
pandemic,” said Tom Koutsoumpas, Capital Caring Health President and CEO. Our Theme is Honoring The
Heroes Among Us, and we chose it to signify how critical services during this time are delivered by many
unsung heroes.”
All proceeds raised from the 2020 Passion for Caring Gala will support Capital Caring Health's emerging needs
from COVID-19 such as TeleHealth equipment in patients' homes, Personal Protective Equipment for frontline
staff, meal delivery to alleviate food insecurity for patients, expanded grief support and mental health services,
increased pediatric care requirements, and Patient Care Fund resources to care for new patients regardless of
their ability to pay.
The virtual Gala is free and open to the public, and the community is invited to nominate a hero by visiting
capitalcaring.org/gala.
