Maryland Department of Aging Announces Aging-in-Place Grants

Maryland Department of Aging Announces Aging-in-Place Grants

The Maryland Department of Aging has begun accepting applications from non-profit organizations and Area Agencies on Aging who are looking to expand existing or establish new aging-in-place programs. The grants, totaling $100,000, are being awarded under Maryland Human Services Article § 10-1201.

“Most older adults when asked will say they want to stay in their own homes as they age,” said Maryland Department of Aging Secretary Carmel Roques. “We want to respect their preference and support them so they can live safely, independently, and comfortably in their homes, regardless of age, income, or ability level.”

Grant recipients must use the funding to provide services such as personal care for activities of daily living, health management, information on and access to community resources, affordable transportation, assistance with in-home modifications, or the opportunity to live in a Senior Village.

The first round of Aging-in-Place grants were awarded in fiscal year 2023 to seven non-profit organizations in Maryland that completed projects ranging from building a new accessible ramp to funding dementia training for older adults and caregivers to providing needed home repairs.

Under the grant agreements, each organization must match funds by 100%, with the department funding no more than 50% of each project’s total cost. Interested organizations must submit a grant application narrative that describes the proposal in detail, a summary of the project work plan for fiscal year 2024, and a proposed budget.

All the documents and directions can be found on the department’s website at aging.maryland.gov and must be submitted by 5:00pm EST, Monday, June 12, 2023. Grants will be awarded on July 1, 2023 and will run through June 30, 2024.
