What type of housing situation do you recommend for seniors who want to maintain a separate living space (not just a bedroom), be nearby others and services, and want to be able to age in space.
As a couple, what happens when we don't agree about where to live as we age?
Thank you Ryan! I agree that being in a home that is safe and encourages independence is an essential key to wellness as one ages. We need to collectively and collaboratively work together to decrease those fall statistics. I look forward to checking out your book, do you discuss funding options for home modifications, if one would prefer to stay in one's home?
Adding an elevator so we can stay in the same multifloored single family home that we like - is what we are looking into, but find it pretty expensive (up to $50,000). Any comments and advice please...
Did I hear you say it's "rarely" a solution to age in place??
Home modification can also be apart of the plan when a move is necessary, as well to ensure one's new home is comfortable and safe.
Thank you!
In terms of your discussion, prior to moving, what are your thoughts on visiting the area of interest at different times of year before making a final decision
Perhaps you should mention chairlifts (on stairs) vs elevators as a solution?

12:43:41 From Karen Midyet to Hosts and panelists : I also think there needs to be new models for singles. Many of my older single clients would love an community that is more like “Golden Girls” but a modern one… Community, friends, etc… We need a different model than some of these so expensive communities for older adults
12:44:36 From Micki Moravitz : Completely agree. I see way too many older folks isolated, as risk, and extremely lonely. Additionally, when folks wait too long to make that pro-active move, and then something happens and they end up being forced to take an option that wasn't their preference:/

12:49:14 From Mary Darne : I'm 66, and I'm downsizing NOW, to a nice ground level condo, while I'm still healthy. It feels great, and I got a rather large amount of $$ from the house to live on now, and pay for more "Senior" housing later. And the unloading of all the 'stuff' is done.
12:50:53 From Ryan Frederick : There are also more resources at the www.smartliving360.com. There will soon be an online self-assessment that people can take as well as a monthly blog and other messages and content.
12:52:22 From Steve Sawmelle : Does anyone know of a new **apartments** style CCRC being built in the Montgomery Co. area? We don't want to own.
12:53:39 From Karen Midyet : I find my clients resistant to Silvernest…not sure why…(I am a Psychologist who specializes in Aging and Retirement.). I am excited to hear about these other options.
