Questions Asked

  • What happened to the brain health program?
  • Good morning. In some of your previous Community education meetings, is there or was there a special advance estate planning health care proxy or living will if in future there are signs of brain health decline, memory loss or need for conservatorship or guardianship? Thank you
  • I have a good friend, in her 50's, who recently had a severe stroke and has not recovered much movement at all. What is the best current resource you are aware of for stroke recovery?
  • how can one treat delirium as a caregiver?
  • "Can you talk about brain health and hydration, dehydration, intravenous use of providing nutrients, hydration and vitamins? Our Family Friend's 96 year old mother says she does not like and refuses to drink water. So the family feeds her lots of watermelon, fruits and vegetables like peaches and cucumbers, strawberries.  Should determination need to made about hydration and dehydration and how her general well being and health and brain health are affected or may be affected because sometimes elderly refuse to drink water?"
  • "How do you get right team around you? Life changes so quickly and unexpectedly"
  • What is SSRI?
  • """Squeezing all the HOPE out of the equation""
  • What steps (ie...medicines, activities, therapies) to take addresses losses for a mid 50's person with MS who is having challenges with short time memory?  A psychological evaluation noted challenges with short term memory.  Is there any tests to determine specific brain issues?
  • When I turned 65, 20 years ago, I asked my Kaiser Permanente (an excellent health insurance) Primary Care physician to recommend a geriatrician. His response was most of my patients are over 65. I searched the web site and determined that KP did not have any geriatricains.  I think that is still true today.  At age 85 my need for a geriatician is greateer.  Please comment.  What do you sugggest?
  • What are the MAIN things older adults can do to FACILITATE good brain health as they age?
  • My mom (age 85) and her sister (75) both have increasing anxiety as they age.  Neither want to take a prescription for it, but it is affecting the quality of their lives.  My aunt is asking why is this happening to her?  What is changing in her brain?
  • My father is a Dementia patient after multiple stroke. He has been my science teacher all my students life. Looking after and caregiving seems to be applying lesson learnt. Thanks for making it better for all of us. It's time for all of us to give it back with caregiving to seniors!
  • I am 85.  My health in general is excellent.  I need help with balance and walking.  I have not had any relevant medical events.   I have tried several balance exerices whithou any improvement. What do you suggest?
  • Amen!
  • I just completed a MOLST with my dr. in May of this yeart
  • Make sure the documents are "durable"
  • The docs in hospital's ER first inclination is to save the person in front of them.  I had a doctor say the Advanced Medical Directive was unclear (when I don't believe it was).  Puts a lot of pressure on the person making the decision.  Is there something to do to better help the docs not necessarily try to save the person, but truly follow the Advanced Directive?
  • "Steve, did someone say there is a DNT or Do Not Transport Order,
  • this is such important. stuff and I can't write fast enough to get it all! is it all in the book? where can I get the book?!
  • AARP has free zoom classes. Many have balance exercise classes.
  • "Is Dr Simmons accepting patients? If yes, where is Dr Simmons located?
  • I'm 83 and my Kaiser dr. treats me well and has for the past 20 years.
  • Steve, I have attended several of your discussions. This is the very best.  Please repeat soon so more questions can be answered.  I am going to read the book immediately.  But,  I have many unanswered questions.
  • "WOW, Taping MOLST form to persons chest medical staff will not read advance directive they will read MOLST form
  • 20 years ago my estate attorney said no MOLST. Now she says do a MOLST!
  • I was the person who mentioned DNT or Do Not Transport.  My Mom had dementia and was in a Memory Care Unit.  I had not heard of a MOLST until today.  We had an advanced directive and a DNR.  But then set up a DNT not to have her transported to a hospital.  I learned a lot today, that an advanced directive is not what I thought it was.  The MOLST is.  Still not positive as to the difference between a MOLST and POLST.  Can they explain?
